​KAMA Mentorship Program



The KAMA Mentorship Program will provide current Kurdish medical students and aspiring Kurdish high school and undergraduate students with resources to support their success through a qualified mentor. As mentors, Kurdish physicians and/or current Kurdish medical students will provide the advice and guidance needed for the advancement of Kurdish students. The program aims to create a motivating relationship between current physicians and students, which will grow with time to benefit both the Kurdish and medical communities.

Program Goals
Medical Student – Physician Mentorship
  • Provide support to students during their education and exams
  • Coordinate mock residency interviews
  • Provide advice and resources regarding USMLE Step 1 preparation
  • Assist in the completion of the ERAS application required for residency
High school/Undergraduate Student – Medical Student Mentorship
  • Provide support to students during their education and undergraduate/medical school applications
  • Provide advice and resources regarding SAT, ACT, and MCAT preparation
  • Assist with volunteering and physician shadowing opportunities
  • Coordinate mock medical school entrance interviews

Eligibility
Mentors
In order to become a mentor, you must either be a certified physician within the U.S./Canada or a medical student enrolled in an accredited U.S./Canada medical school. 

Mentees
In order to be a mentee, you must express interest in KAMA and the mentorship program and 
be a current student or recent graduate within the U.S. or Canada, this includes:
  • medical students
  • individuals interested in pursuing medicine
    • students in high school, undergraduate, or post-graduate studies
    • recent graduates from the above studies who are interested in applying to medicine

Registration
If you are interested in being mentored or becoming a mentor, please become a KAMA member and share your interest with us.
We will connect you with the appropriate person in order to provide a high quality and engaging mentorship experience.

Mentor Role
  • Provide and exchange up-to-date contact information to mentee
  • Coordinate weekly/monthly/seasonal meetings with mentee in order to follow their progress
  • Connect mentee with available resources for the advancement of their success
  • Foster a relationship with mentee
  • Provide motivation and emotional support​

 Mentee Role
  • Provide and exchange up-to-date contact information with mentor
  • Maintain weekly/monthly/seasonal meetings with mentor in order to update them with your progress
  • Seek guidance and use mentor resourcefully
  • Foster a relationship with your mentor
  • Spread information and resources gained through mentor within your close Kurdish community in order to increase the awareness of KAMA
  • Once goal has been achieved, become a mentor for KAMA
